Abode of Arch

Project name: Abode of Arch

Builtup area:  1400 sqft

Site area:  2.9 cent

Location: Fort Kochi, Kerala

Typology: Residential

Abode of Arch is located in a cluttered residential neighborhood of Fort Kochi on a small patch of land with undulating site profile. Fort Kochi is a place steeped in history and culture of all who occupied it through the ages. This is evident in its colonial buildings and sociocultural setup as one can witness if we take a scroll down its interconnected narrow roads and meandering alley ways. An overwhelming number of art cafes, antique dealers, spice traders, flocks of art and music enthusiasts all make up the muse of this laid back beach suburb in Kerala.

Our clients Ashith and Dhanya approached us with an straightforward design brief of having a three bedrooms house with all basic necessities of a Kerala household and  also needs to have an essence of Fortkochi. They wanted a unique, functional and predominantly ‘white’ structure. Upon site visit and survey  we understood the site to be at the end of two meandering  alleyways making it  a corner plot with housing developments on three sides and an approach road to south west. Challenge was to accommodate a three bedroom house on a 1260 sq ft uneven profiled plot without compromising  on client requirements, privacy or comfort.
